Escrima Arrives in the Midlands

EWTO Escrima

January will see the addition of Escrima to the WingTsun Schools of Mastery's available programmes. Lessons will be piloted in the new Warwick School by myself, Si Hing Dennis; using the guidelines laid out by Grand Master Newman, Master Cameron and Sifu Scott Rowlinson.

EWTO Escrima is an armed defence system based on the programme originally devised by Rene Latosa (heir to the Latosa Clan Escrima system), Bill Newman and Brian Jones who have all been instrumental in bringing and developing Escrima for European audiences since the 1970s. Primarily using sticks to train with, EWTO Escrima uses progressive principles to introduce, demonstrate and explain the practical realities of armed defence.

The guiding principles of this system are about survival, not coming to harm and mastering our own minds, bodies, and spirits. This marries well with the Wing Tsun principles of defence and reflects the established Wing Tsun attitude towards a progressive scientific understanding of Martial Arts, the human form, the psychology of conflict and how they affect our everyday well being.

Although we use the traditional rattan cane to train with, it is important to bear in mind that the Escrimadores of this system do not limit themselves to canes, the EWTO Escrima system has been designed to incorporate a number traditional and historical European weapons systems as part of its curriculum.

To start this pilot enterprise, lessons in Escrima will be offered to members of the Wing Tsun Schools of Mastery as an added extra to their regular Wing Tsun Training. However it is my hope that Warwick will in time become a centre of learning for this wonderful Filipino Martial Art.

Enquiries are welcome for Escrima training, we are more than happy to discuss your requirements.
